Touching insite to the trials of growing up I’m so happy this is now on Prime. An early ’90s film set in 1972 Pennsylvania follows the best friendship of 11 yo’s Veda played by Chlumsky and Thomas J played by Culkin. Veda’s father (Aykroyd) runs the family business, a funeral parlor which is also the family home, and Veda’s mother died in childbirth with her, so Veda’s coming of age in this film with a constant backdrop of death with some hypochondria and other issues. one of my all-time favorites My Girl’ is a rare treat in that it is a moving family drama that never descends into being overly-sentimental or cloying in the messages it’s trying to deliver. I’m a big sucker for romantic comedies about kids, so this is one of my all-time favorite movies. It is a story about two kids who are just on the verge of puberty and haven’t quite “discovered” each other. They are good friends, nothing more.The girl is also raised by a mortician whose wife apparently died while giving birth to her. Thus, she has many hypochondriac episodes. The family doctor is also nice to her and realizes she’ll grow out of it. But she also gets jealous…
